Hopkins Estates

Our Story

1972

We first started a property development business, building commercial, agricultural, industrial and residential buildings.

1984

We set up our first Concrete batching plant at our old Wincanton site in Somerset on the Bennetts Field Trading Estate, with just two lorries to start with servicing our own projects. Soon more lorries followed along with enquiries and demand from local builders encouraged us to open the business to the public. Since then, Hopkins Concrete has never stopped growing.

2004

To meet the ever-changing demands of the construction industry we invested in a new state-of-the-art batching facility at our headquarters in Wincanton, Somerset, enabling us to expand our fleet and continue to compete at the highest level.

2012

We completed the build of our new on-site plant in Wincanton with the help of D & C Engineering. We installed an 8m³ Erie Strayer bowl mixer, capable of mixing 8m³ of concrete in 30 seconds, the first of its kind in the South West.

2014

After a £2.5 million investment, we opened our second plant in Bridgwater, located on the edge of the M5 motorway. The state-of-the-art site has the only other Erie Strayer two-bowl mixer in the South West and combined with our Wincanton plant Hopkins now challenges the output of other top concrete companies in the UK.

2015

Hopkins acquired 69 new Mercedes-Benz Aroc vehicles, making it the UK’s biggest single order for the new range. The purchase of the vehicles marked an investment of £5 million and takes our fleet to 81. The Mercedes trucks have been celebrated for fuel efficiencies, an important factor for Hopkins from both an economic and environmental perspective.

The company also negotiated sole distributor rights of Ready Jet in the UK, a revolutionary truck mixer cleaning system. This places the company as an industry leader in innovation and safety, by offering a safer, more efficient, alternative method of removing residual concrete build-up from trucks.

2017

Hopkins moved to its new head office at Lawrence Hill, Wincanton.

2018

Following considerable growth of the concrete and aggregate business, and interest shown by several major national companies, the decision was taken to sell the business to Tarmac, who is part of the Global CRH Group, based in Dublin.

2022

After a 4-year break, Hopkins Estates have re-entered the Haulage, Aggregate, Muck Away transportation market, with an initial x9 - 8 Wheeler Steel Body Tippers, x1  M.A.N 6x2 Tractor Unit with multiple Grain Trailers and Low Loaders in our fleet
